Professional Development Scholarships for Teachers
Professional Development Scholarships for Teachers provide funds to Charlotte-Mecklenburg area educators with a primary focus on arts, science or history (and/or integration of those subjects into the standard curriculum) to encourage teachers to attend workshops, conferences or short-term training programs.
Who is eligible? Any classroom educator in an accredited school in the following counties: Mecklenburg, Union, Iredell, Gaston, Lincoln, Cabarrus, Lancaster (SC), York (SC). Eligible educators should be employed during regular school hours and can teach any subject offered at the school.
What is eligible? A Professional Development Scholarship for Teachers may be requested by an individual educator or team of up to four educators to support attendance at a workshop, conference or short-term training program that will advance their classroom practice and service to the school.
What is the support period? FY20 Professional Development Scholarships will support attendance at experiences occurring between July 1, 2019 and June 30, 2020. Eligible activities must begin at least 30-days after the date of request and must be completed by June 30, 2020.
How much may I request? Is there a matching requirement? Educators may apply for up to $1,000 to cover their eligible expenses (registration fees, travel, and hotel). If the application is approved, the scholarship committee may choose to grant the full requested amount or a portion thereof. There is an annual limit of $1,000 per applicant or team. There is no match requirement.
Are there ineligible expenses? Scholarship funds cannot be used for educator salaries or benefits, per diems or incidental expenses incurred during the professional development experience.
When is the deadline? Scholarship applications will be accepted on a rolling basis beginning July 1, 2019. ASC staff will accept, review and approve requests as long as funds are available. Generally applicants will be notified within three weeks. The application form must be received by our office no less than 30 days prior to the date of the professional development experience in order for the request to be considered eligible.
How do I apply? All applicants are required to apply through our online application system. To request access to the online application form, please contact Erin Elliott, Director of Education, Education at email@example.com or 704-335-3058.
What is the required reporting? Most important to ASC is learning how your Professional Development Scholarship helped improve your classroom practice and/or support the goals of your school. All recipients will be required to submit a final report that describes the outcomes of the experience. Final reports must be filed through the online process within the 30 days following the experience.
