The Beauty of Science by Artisan Preparatory

This program allows participants to create artistic compounds made with natural ingredients. Artisans will teach the Science of making healthy-from nature, beauty compounds. The curriculum includes hands-on common folk-art design, a basic history of these beauty products and scientific conclusions. Participants will mix, measure and produce an all natural beauty product from the historical recipes and methods of the African American culture. More information here.

Ignite Dance Classes by Order My Steps

Ignite is a free dance class series offered for girls ages 6 to teens. A new genre of dance will be introduced throughout the program including: ballet, hip hop, African dance, jazz and modern with elements of dance education. There are three ways to register! Visual Art and Music Community Experiences by Arts+

Arts+ invites all community members to participate in a visual art workshop series with a different activity each workshop. Arts+ teaching artists will lead participants through various art projects and techniques. Live music will accompany the art-making experience throughout the workshop. These two-hour workshop experiences are intended for families and appropriate for all ages.

Classes take place on Saturdays, from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

African Drum Circle presented by Drums 4 Life

Drums 4 Life presents an exciting African Drum Circle for people of all ages. Participants will learn about the rewards of African drumming and have a hands on experience drumming on different African instruments. Drums are provided for all participants.No prior experience is required.

Photo Exhibit on Immigration to Charlotte presented by Photosynthesis Inc.

This exhibition features photography from the “Finding Home Again” 2019 Photography workshop series taught by Ginger Wagoner. The images are each special moments their creators have been kind enough to share with us—allowing themselves to be vulnerable in order to gift us with glimpses into their perspectives on immigrating to Charlotte through personal experiences of courage, triumph, family, and everyday life told artistically through photography. We hope you will come get to know your neighbors a little better.


It’s Not Just Selfies…It’s Photography and More Visual Arts Program presented by Creating Exposure Through the Arts 

This program will teach photography and videography techniques using point & shoot and DSLR cameras. We will also introduce basic writing skills as we produce blog posts and the “Cool Kidz Create”. The skills learned can be applied to school yearbooks, blogging, newsletters, newspapers, magazine, photo shoots, photo contests and photo exhibits. Participants will also learn about the importance of effective social media interaction as a photographer/journalist. We will display images during local community photography workshops.

Inspired Sessions presented by Guerilla Poets

Come experience live speed painting and spoken word poetry based off the themes found in the book of the month for the West Blvd. Library book club. Light refreshments will be provided.

Join us for this Active Learning Performance that integrates dance and choreography with Science, Math, Storytelling and World Cultures. Be prepared to be amazed and amused by choreography that demonstrates how we use math to create and perform dances, how our bodies work like simple and complex machines, how we can tell stories without talking and how diversity is expressed through dance. Appropriate for all audiences.
