Beyond Relationships STEM Program presented by Discovery Place
When: Every Tuesday from March 12 – June 4, 2019 (4 p.m – 5:30 p.m.)
Where: Arbor Glen Outreach Facility (1520 Clanton Rd, Charlotte, NC 28208)

This free event series promotes hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) learning for the whole family! Join us each week to use woodworking tools and equipment including drills, saws and more to create large scale games, seating and other pieces to encourage family time.

 

Hands-on Clay  presented by Clayworks

Where: Scaleybark Library (101 Scaleybark Rd, Charlotte, NC 28209)

Join Clayworks for our monthly Hands on Clay workshop series. Our teaching artists will teach different clay techniques to create your own pottery that will last a lifetime. Lean how to roll, pinch, texturize, slip and score clay while creating different project each workshop. Each workshop is a different project, so you can come back again and again. Projects range from pitchers to mugs to wall hangings. Space is limited, so reserve your spot today. Projects will be taken back to Clayworks to be glazed and fired before being returned to the rec center for pickup.  Please allow one month for delivery. Dance Without Limits for Seniors by Order My Steps
When: Every Monday, from January 29- April 22, 2019 (10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.)

Dance Without Limits is a free 12-Week dance class designed for seniors of varying mobility levels. We will learn dances from around the world, use props, explore improve and create original choreographic works. Dance is a creative vehicle that promotes building community, maintaining a healthy while providing a vehicle for expression. For more information call 704-221-4787.

 

The Beauty of Science presented by Artisan Preparatory
When: March 6, April 10 (10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.)
Where: Southview Recreation Center (1720 Vilma St, Charlotte, NC 28208)

This program allows participants to create artistic compounds made with natural ingredients. Artisans will teach the Science of making healthy-from nature, beauty compounds. The curriculum includes hands-on common folk-art design, a basic history of these beauty products, scientific conclusions and small samples for to take home. Participants will mix, measure and produce an all natural beauty product from the historical recipes and methods of the African American culture. These sessions may include one of the following themes: Lye Soap, Salve, Lotion, Bath Bombs and Lip Balm. These sessions are intended for adults and seniors. African Drum Circle presented by Drums 4 Life

When: March 9, April 13, May 11 & June 8, 2019 (11 a.m – 1 p.m.)
Where: West Boulevard Library (2157 West Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28208)

Join us for a African Drum Circle. A drum circle is a group of people from a few to many arranged in a circle experiencing the spontaneous creation of music on a variety of drums and percussion instruments. The circle is a symbol of wholeness and integration. Because a circle has no beginning and no end, the agreement to connect in a circle allows energy to circulate from one person to the next. No prior experience or instruments are necessary; Drums 4 Life will provide instructions and instruments.

 

Jazzin’ & Bluzin’ with the Seniors presented by Dapper Street Productions
When: May 2, 2019 (10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.)
Where: Southview Recreation Center (1720 Vilma St, Charlotte, NC 28208)

An hour of live jazz, blues and storytelling by the Dapper Street Jazz Band. Attendees are encouraged to cut a strut if the music moves ya. You dig? Ages 55 and up.

 

Finding Home Again Photography Course presented by Photosynthesis Inc.
When: May 18, June 22, July 20, August 17 & September 28, 2019 (2 p.m. – 4 p.m.)
Where: West Boulevard Library (2157 West Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28208)

This photography course is for Montagnard first generation immigrants. No experience needed. Bring any camera you would like to work with – cell phone cameras work great. After a final exhibit of participants’ work, students will be given their framed art work to keep. Class is limited to 20 students. Raptors Inspire! for Seniors by Carolina Raptor Center

Come and meet these big birds of prey that you might find in your own backyard here in Charlotte. These birds are from your neighborhood, but you rarely get to see them nose to beak. Bring your curiosity and your sense of adventure. For seniors.
