Dance Without Limits for Seniors by Order My Steps
When: Every Wednesday, from January 30 – April 24, 2019 (10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.)

Dance Without Limits is a free 12-Week dance class designed for seniors of various mobility levels.  We will explore dance from around the world, work with props, explore improv and create original choreographic works.  Dance is a great vehicle of expression it brings people together, promotes good health, while providing a creative outlet. For more information call 704-221-4787.

 

Hands-on Clay presented by Clayworks

Join Clayworks for our monthly Hands on Clay workshop series. Our teaching artists will teach different clay techniques to create your own pottery that will last a lifetime. Lean how to roll, pinch, texturize, slip and score clay while creating different project each workshop. Each workshop is a different project, so you can come back again and again. Projects range from pitchers to mugs to wall hangings. Space is limited, so reserve your spot today. Projects will be taken back to Clayworks to be glazed and fired before being returned to the rec center for pickup.  Please allow one month for delivery. Free but you must pre-register by calling 980-314-1121.

Discover, Create, Celebrate presented by the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art

Where: University City Regional Library (301 E W.T. Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28262)

This art series allows you to discover pieces from the museum’s collection at your local library. High-quality reproductions of select pieces from the Bechtler collection will be installed inside and outside the library. Accompanying the display will be art-making workshops inspired by the artists’ works, a Family Day event with music, and a culminating event.

The Color of Jazz Music Series by Dapper Street Productions
When: March 7, April 4, May 2, 2019 (6 – 8 p.m.)

This live jazz, soul and blues series centered around jazz culture pays tribute to jazz greats and emerging jazz artists from America and abroad. The series will feature local, seasoned talent, aiming to educate and entertain. Ages 16+.

 

The Beauty of Science presented by Artisan Preparatory
When: February 27, March 27, April 24, May 22, 2019 (10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.)
Where: Mallard Creek Recreation Center (2530 Johnston Oehler Rd, Charlotte, NC 28269)

This program allows participants to create artistic compounds made with natural ingredients. Artisans will teach the Science of making healthy-from nature, beauty compounds. The curriculum includes hands-on common folk-art design, a basic history of these beauty products, scientific conclusions and small samples for to take home. Participants will mix, measure and produce an all natural beauty product from the historical recipes and methods of the African American culture. These sessions may include one of the following themes: Lye Soap, Salve, Lotion, Bath Bombs and Lip Balm. These sessions are intended for adults and seniors. Dapper Street Presents the 2nd Annual Jazz on The Green 2019! A live jazz event with local, seasoned musicians gracing the stage. Take a load off, bring a friend, bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the spring air, live music and community engagement.
