Hands-on Clay presented by Clayworks

Join Clayworks for our monthly Hands on Clay workshop series. Our teaching artists will teach different clay techniques to create your own pottery that will last a lifetime. Lean how to roll, pinch, texturize, slip and score clay while creating different project each workshop. Each workshop is a different project, so you can come back again and again. Projects range from pitchers to mugs to wall hangings. Space is limited, so reserve your spot today. Projects will be taken back to Clayworks to be glazed and fired before being returned to the rec center for pickup.  Please allow one month for delivery. Free but you must pre-register by calling 980-314-1121.

Motown & More presented by DNAMuzic

Come out to this musical journey of one of America’s cherished genres—the music of Motown and the journey of the Great Migration. We’ll also share the connections of musical forms that influenced the Motown sound with some interesting cross-cultural connections! This is 50-60 minute program is for all ages.

 

The Color of Jazz Music Series by Dapper Street Productions
When: October 4, November 1, 2018 & February 7, March 7, April 4, May 2, 2019 (6 – 8 p.m.)
Where: Mallard Creek Recreation Center (2530 Johnston Oehler Rd, Charlotte, NC 28269)

This live jazz, soul and blues series centered around jazz culture pays tribute to jazz greats and emerging jazz artists from America and abroad. The series will feature local, seasoned talent, aiming to educate and entertain. Ages 16+.

 

Visual Art and Music Workshops by Community School of the Arts
When: October 6, October 27, November 10 & December 1, 2018 (1 p.m. – 3 p.m.)
Where: University City Regional Library (301 E W.T. Harris Blvd, Charlotte, NC 28262)

Join us for this visual art workshop series at the library, featuring a different project at each workshop. The art-making experience will be accompanied with live music. For families, appropriate for all ages.

 

The Beauty of Science Presented by Artisan Preparatory

Discover the scientific compounds in beauty products! This program allows participants to create artistic compounds made with natural ingredients. Artisans will teach the Science of making healthy-from nature, beauty compounds. The curriculum includes hands-on common folk-art design, a basic history of these beauty products, scientific conclusions and small samples for to take home. Participants will mix, measure and produce an all natural beauty product from the historical recipes and methods of the African American culture. These sessions may include one of the following themes: Lye Soap, Salve, Lotion, Bath Bombs and Lip Balm.

 

Jazzin’ & Bluzin’ with the Seniors presented by Dapper Street Productions
When: December 6, 2018 (10:45 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.)

An hour of live jazz, blues and storytelling by the Dapper Street Jazz Band. Attendees are encouraged to cut a strut if the music moves ya. You dig? Ages 55 and up.

 

Raptors Inspire! for Seniors by Carolina Raptor Center

Come and meet these big birds of prey that you might find in your own backyard here in Charlotte. These birds are from your neighborhood, but you rarely get to see them nose to beak. Bring your curiosity and your sense of adventure. For seniors.

 

Odd Tales by Cartage Theatre
When: February 7, 2019 (10:45 a.m.)
Where: Mallard Creek Recreation Center (2530 Johnston Oehler Rd, Charlotte, NC 28269)

Join Cartage Theatre for this live performance. Odd Tales is a performance of live original Audio drama’s, with live Sound Effects. Audio dramas are a dramatized, purely acoustic performance. With no visual component, radio drama depends on dialogue, music and sound effects to help the listener imagine the characters and story. Odd Tales is written by Charlotte Authors, and performed by Charlotte Actors, plus special musical guests.

 

Jazz on The Green presented by Dapper Street Productions

Dapper Street Presents the 2nd Annual Jazz on The Green 2019! A live jazz event with local, seasoned musicians gracing the stage. Take a load off, bring a friend, bring your lawn chairs and enjoy the spring air, live music and community engagement.
