Description

Under the direction of the Program Director Theater and consistent with the Christian mission of the YMCA, the Technical Director is responsible for supervising the audiovisual and technological functions of the company. Their duties include analyzing the operations budget to determine strategies for using technology within the company, coordinating equipment purchases and interpreting project briefs to identify a business’s tech needs and production specifications.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Overseeing the audio and visual production process.
  • Designing, setting up and operating sound and lighting equipment for projects.
  • Providing technical support for productions, programs and events.
  • Supporting and advising the technical and sales teams on financial needs.
  • Working with the Director to oversee the completion of projects and ensure that all technical needs are catered to.
  • Providing accurate equipment costs and setup time estimates.
  • Working directly with the design team to come up with mockups and technical drawings of scenes.
  • Recommending and using new technologies to improve work for all employees and executives.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in theater or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years in theater management.
  • Highly developed organizational skills and ability to juggle multiple priorities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation, creative problem solving, interpersonal and diplomacy skills, collaborative work style, and team player.
  • Ability to recruit, train and develop volunteers and staff.
  • Knowledge of personal computer applications i.e. MS Office, MS Outlook, and ability to learn enterprise specific platforms.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A Scenic Designer to collaborate with the production team on the vision for the set. They would be responsible for building at an offsite location and installing for main stage productions.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
