The Position 

Levine Museum of the New South seeks a Director of Development to strengthen our fund raising operation and create a culture of philanthropy during a time of transformation and growth.  The Director of Development serves as a front-line fundraiser responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual and major donors, and provides support for the overall Institutional Advancement effort, in the service of Levine Museum’s mission and goals.    

 

The Work 

  • Participates in developing an audience-focused culture of equity, creativity, collaboration, and respect that welcomes new ideas, experimentation, and joy; 
  • With the CEO, VP, Partnerships and Advancement, and Board members, designs and implements a multi-year strategy, budgets, and timelines to achieve fund raising goals; 
  • Identifies a portfolio of new potential individual donors, assess interests, and develop strategic relationships; 
  • Leads and grows the Visionary Member group through events and customized communications; 
  • Ensures senior leadership and board members are well-positioned to solicit donations by providing relevant research, ask-amounts, and ask dates; 
  • Works with Marketing and Programs to develop the messaging, look and feel around the Museum’s digital and analog giving campaigns, including the annual giving and special campaign programs; 
  • Evaluates and analyzes effectiveness of fundraising strategies for growing support; 
  • Oversees donor records management, gift processing and acknowledgment, and leverage the Altru software to produce relevant reports and prospect research; 
  • Supervises donor records and database management support staff; 
  • Participates in the creation and execution of fundraising events; 
  • Provides support for the Marketing and Development Committee of the Board. 

 

Requirements: 

  • A Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of development-related experience and knowledge of development best practices. 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, confidently and professionally with donors, staff, volunteers, and vendors. 
  • Outstanding organizational skills and detail orientation.
  • Capacity and willingness to manage several projects simultaneously, to support the organization beyond primary responsibilities, and to work evenings and weekends when required. 
  • Experience in data analytics highly desirable;
  • A passion for history, education, and community building is essential.
