Charlotte Ballet - Academy Associate Director – Lower School

The Academy Associate Director – Lower School teaches all levels of ballet and dance instruction in adherence to the mission of the organization. In addition, administrative responsibilities are essential to the management and communication inherent to this role; the creation of dance works for students as assigned, and the administration for children’s roles in support company productions as assigned.

The Academy Associate Director – Lower Schools will report to the Academy Director, Executive Director.

Job Duties

Ballet and Dance instruction

  • Teaching students in the Academy’s Preparatory, Primary, and Intermediate Division levels
  • Teaching Schedule is not to exceed 22 hours per week during School Year and Summer programming
  • Summer Intensive and Summer Course
  • Choreography and coaching for School Year and Summer classes assigned
  • Completing Mid-Year, Examination, and Year-End Student Evaluations as assigned

Maintaining Academy written curriculum and course schedules

  • Training Division faculty in curriculum and evaluation standards
  • Creating, implementing and overseeing developmentally-gauged curriculum for Preparatory, Primary, and Intermediate Division levels (students age 3 – 12)
  • Children’s Summer Curriculum Planning (students age 3 – 12)

 Leadership, administration and rehearsal for children’s roles in professional company productions, as assigned

 Auditions

  • Traveling for and adjudicating Summer Intensive auditions both in Charlotte and outside of Charlotte
  • Managing placement classes for new students
  • Reviewing video auditions

Supporting Academy photo shoots as assigned and reviewing Academy photo galleries

Maintain a log of work hours for duties outside of Academy classes listed in the schedule below 

Oversight, creation, and/or evaluation of Academy ballet exams as assigned

Education, Qualifications, and Competencies
  • BA or BFA in Dance, Dance Education, Dance Performance or equivalent experience Five years or more of teaching experience with ballet concentration
  • Five years or more professional dance performance experience preferred
  • Additional experience in school administration or business administration preferred
  • Serves as key member of Academy leadership team
  • Supports and helps Director in their efforts to achieve the Academy’s mission
  • Communicates clearly and effectively with both internal and external contacts
  • Effectively uses technology for communication, financial analysis, and data tracking purposes
  • Works as a creative, analytical problem solver
  • Continuously promotes Charlotte Ballet both in and out of the studio
FLSA Status/Classification

The Academy Associate Director – Lower School is considered Full time/Exempt

Compensation and Benefits
  • Starting at $57,500. Benefits include: PTO, Sick Time, 403(b) Retirement Plan, Medical/Dental/Vision, Short/Long Term Disability, FSA
