ASC Statement on Protests Following the Deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor

Categories: Blog

The deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor over a matter of months have left residents in Charlotte-Mecklenburg and across the country hurt, shaken and angry.

These deaths have not just reopened old injuries; rather, they have revealed deep, festering wounds that have been ignored or too quickly forgotten after prior acts of injustice.

We are heartbroken that Black lives continue to be taken too soon because of authority figures, structures and systems that have not valued those lives.

ASC is a voice for the cultural community, which is comprised of artists, musicians, historians, scientists and other creative organizations and individuals. ASC is committed to examining, expressing and celebrating the human experience.

Art has a unique ability to shine light on injustice and bring people together to heal in the most difficult of times. ASC remains committed to ensuring Charlotte-Mecklenburg’s cultural community brings people together, in a safe way, during this time of pain and grief to create change.
