Grants available for projects that build community or demonstrate relevant cultural expression.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Sept. 1, 2016) – ASC is responding to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg community’s interest in arts, science, history and heritage programming through its new Cultural Vision Grants. Mecklenburg County-based creative individuals and nonprofit organizations that want to apply must submit a letter of intent by noon on Friday, Sept. 23, 2016. Full application guidelines are available at

The grants will provide funds of up to $10,000 for creative individuals and nonprofit organizations to pursue projects that strongly connect to the community’s Cultural Vision Plan, a vison for how the cultural sector can contribute to the community’s vitality through building community, increasing program relevance and innovation, and making arts, science and history central to PreK-12 education.

More specifically, these grants will support cultural projects that:

  • Build community by: Connecting citizens across points of difference to increase understanding, acceptance and positive regard between communities; and/or nurturing, celebrating and supporting the authentic cultures and creative expression of specific neighborhoods; or
  • Increase relevance and innovation by: Activating nontraditional performance or exhibition spaces close to where people live; and/or providing groundbreaking and participatory experiences that reflect the changing communities in which we live.

“Our local creative individuals and arts and culture organizations are already doing incredible work that advances the priorities of the Cultural Vision Plan,” said ASC Vice President of Cultural & Community Investment Ryan Deal. “This new grant initiative will build on that current work by providing funding for new opportunities that strengthen connections to the community and build bridges across differences using arts and culture as a platform for understanding.”

Organizations that have a current operating or project grant from ASC are not eligible to apply at this time. Funded projects must start between Jan. 1-June 30, 2017, and conclude before June 30, 2018.
