Calls to Artists
Public art creates livable cities. It enhances neighborhood identity. It strengthens economic development and tourism, and enriches the education and enjoyment of residents. ASC Public Art is committed to expanding opportunities for its citizens to experience public art while attracting local, regional and national artists to build on Charlotte-Mecklenburg's collection of public art.
Since 1993, ASC Public Art has managed the 1% program for public art for the City of Charlotte and Mecklenburg County and has developed partnerships with public agencies, private corporations and citizen's groups to provide artist selection and project management services. Calls to artists for upcoming projects managed by ASC are listed on this page.
CMPD EASTWAY DIVISION BUILDING - OPEN CALL TO SUBMIT QUALIFICATIONS
ASC is accepting qualifications from local and regional (NC, SC, GA, TN and VA) artists for a public art opportunity at a new police division building. The selected artist will work with police department staff, area residents, and the facility architect to develop and implement a concept for artwork to be incorporated into the facility. Art opportunities may include 2 or 3 dimensional works incorporated into the entry plaza walls or pavers, pilasters at the building entry, or within the landscape or fencing facing Central Avenue. The selected artist will work with stakeholders to develop artwork themes and final location. The City desires that the developed artwork reflect both the police department and the neighborhood they serve, and that the artwork helps to create an appealing facility that addresses and welcomes neighborhood residents.
