ASC Provides Two Grant Opportunities and Free Information Sessions

The Arts & Science Council (ASC) is providing two grant opportunities to support broad-based arts, science, history or heritage projects/initiatives in Mecklenburg County.  Non-profit organizations, based in Charlotte-Mecklenburg, can apply for up to $7,500 through the Cultural Access Grant or Cultural Project Grant programs.  Funding will support cultural projects taking place between July 1, 2009 - June 15, 2010.  The application deadline for both programs is Friday, March 20, 2009 at noon.  For complete guidelines and the online application, visit www.artsandscience.org or call 704-333-2272.

Cultural Access grants are designed to promote arts and cultural equity and increase the cultural experiences of African American, Asian, Latino and Native American audiences and participants. Eligible non-profit organizations must have a primary mission of serving the African-American, Asian, Latino or Native American community OR must partner with  an African-American, Asian, Latino or Native American artist or an organization whose primary mission is to serve one (or more) of these respective communities.  Proposed programs must be based in African-American, Asian, Latino or Native American culture, occur in Mecklenburg County, and include arts, science, history or heritage.  This program is only for projects that have not previously received funding through ASC.

ASC's Cultural Access grants are funded through ASC's Annual Fund Drive, the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County, and the North Carolina Arts Council, a state agency.

ASC is providing two free information sessions for the Cultural Access grants on the following dates:

ASC’s Cultural Project grants are designed to increase access to arts, science, history and heritage offerings while strengthening the quality of cultural programming in neighborhoods and towns across Mecklenburg County.  The program supports project investments to non-profit groups for broad-based arts and cultural initiatives.

ASC will provide three free information sessions for the Cultural Project grants on the following dates:
