ASC names Cato Excellence in Teaching Award Winners
(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) - Three teachers have been named winners of the Arts & Science Council’s (ASC) Cato Excellence in Teaching Awards. The award recognizes teachers who have distinguished themselves in teaching Art, Science or History, or who have demonstrated creative infusion of arts, science or history into the core academic curriculum.
The winners are:
Art
Chandra McCloud-Glover, Northwest School of the Arts
Science
Jill Thompson, J.V. Washam Elementary School
History
Lisa Gurthie, Rocky River High School
“These three educators have demonstrated unique innovation in teaching,” said ASC President Scott Provancher. “The Cato Corporation and ASC are honored to recognize their achievements in the classroom.”
Each recipient received $1,500 and a unique work of art by local artist Greg Scott. The award is made possible through an endowment gift made to ASC from The Cato Corporation.
To be considered eligible for the award, individuals had to be a Pre-K through 12th grade teacher working for a public or independent school in Mecklenburg, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln or Union counties in N.C., or Lancaster or York counties in S.C.
