Government employees exhibit their artwork through 12th annual National Arts Program in Charlotte

The 12th annual National Arts Program (NAP), showcasing the artistic talents of city, county and library employees, retirees and their families will kick off on Thursday, January 26 with an opening reception at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center.

The opening reception, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. will be the first opportunity to view 341 works of art ranging from paint to photography and clay from 212 artists. The evening will be capped off with an award ceremony for this year’s NAP award winners. Artistic work is judged in amateur, intermediate, and professional categories, as well as youth categories, 12 years of age and under and 12 to 18 years old.

Opportunities will be available to interview the artists and see the artwork on display. The art will be on display in the lobby of the Government Center through Thursday, Feb. 23.

Charlotte’s NAP is a collaboration between the Arts & Science Council, the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library.

The NAP is a nationwide initiative that fosters creativity and encourages artistic expression among employees, retirees and relatives of government organizations. Now in its 30th year, the NAP hosts exhibitions in more than 450 cities throughout the United States. Yearly the program produces more than 30,000 artistic works. Charlotte has hosted the exhibit since 2000.
