Cato Excellence in Teaching Award Nominations Now Available
Nomination forms are now available for the Arts & Science Council’s (ASC) Cato Excellence in Teaching Awards. The award recognizes teachers who have distinguished themselves in teaching Art, Science or History, or who have demonstrated creative infusion of arts, science or history into the core academic curriculum.
ASC’s Cato Excellence in Teaching Award annually recognizes three creative teachers. Each recipient receives a $1,500 award. The award is made possible through an endowment gift made to ASC from The Cato Corporation.
Nomination applications are available here and the deadline is Tuesday, January 31, 2012. The finalists and recipients will be announced during ASC’s annual Impact + Investment event in July.
“Supporting education is one of the primary areas of focus of our charitable efforts,” said John Cato, Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Cato Corporation. “We are pleased to be a part of recognizing teachers who are inspiring students to excel.”
To be considered eligible for the award, individuals must be a Pre-K through 12th grade teacher working for a public or independent school in Mecklenburg, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln or Union counties in N.C., or Lancaster or York counties in S.C.
“Creativity is vital in preparing the next generation of innovative thinkers,” said ASC President Scott Provancher. “In its second year, ASC is pleased, along with the Cato Corporation, to recognize teachers in our community who are dedicated to infusing creativity in their classrooms.”
