ASC Announces Regional Artist Project Grant Recipients
The Arts & Science Council (ASC), in conjunction with arts councils in Cabarrus, Cleveland, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Rowan, Rutherford and York counties and with the support of the North Carolina Arts Council (NCAC) and Blumenthal Endowment, has named the 2012 Regional Artist Project Grant (RAPG) recipients. This year, grants were awarded to 31 artists of varied disciplines.
The RAPG provides funds for individuals and groups of unincorporated artists to pursue projects that further enhance their artistic development by attending a professional development experience or purchasing/renting a piece of equipment.
This year the RAPG was open to artists in all disciplines and provided an all or nothing grant of up to $2,000. In previous years, emerging artists were able to apply for up to $3,000 and established artists for up to $5,000 and eligibility for the grant rotated between disciplines.
This year’s grantees were selected from 106 applicants, who requested a total of $168,431 for $50,000 in available funds.
ASC President Scott Provancher said the revised process for the RAPG was a success in its first year.
“A Regional Artist Project Grant is an excellent opportunity for individual artists to advance their work and experience,” Provancher said. “We were thrilled to have so many applicants and be able to invest in a record number of artists this year.”
The RAPG is funded through contributions by the NCAC, Blumenthal Endowment, partner arts councils and ASC’s Annual Fund Drive.
