Barbara Ann Temple Joins ASC Staff as Vice President, Education
The Arts & Science Council (ASC) announced today that Barbara Ann Temple will join its staff in the newly created role of Vice President, Education. Temple brings 26 years of educational experience to ASC, including most recently as the Director of Teacher Professional Development for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS). She begins September 12.
In her new role, Temple will oversee all ASC education initiatives. This includes the administration of all education based grant programs and the implementation of the recently completed education blueprint - a new strategic partnership between ASC and CMS to align arts, science and history offerings with CMS’s core curriculum and provided teacher training and development. ASC recently raised $1 million to restore education programs and support implementation of the blueprint.
The new role was developed in partnership with CMS and will provide Temple access to CMS administrators and schools. She will also be a member of CMS’s curriculum team and have a work station at their offices.
“This role is instrumental in ASC’s efforts to provide arts, science and history offerings that make creativity and innovation central in education,” said ASC President Scott Provancher. “Barbara Ann brings unique experience as a teacher, administrator, curriculum developer and educational consultant. We are excited to have someone with her wealth of knowledge and experiences join ASC.”
Prior to accepting her new position, Temple worked for CMS for 18 years. Since 2007 she has overseen all teacher professional development for more than 10,000 teachers and 2,000 instructional assistants. She spent four years at Vance High School, where she served two years as an English teacher and two years as the chairperson of the English department. She spent four years as an English teacher at Myers Park High School. Temple has also served as an adjunct instructor of education at Central Piedmont Community College and Queens University of Charlotte.
Temple earned a B.A. in Education from Lynchburg College, and a M.Ed. in Special Education and Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
