Arts & Science Council Makes $8.3 Million Fund-Raising Goal

The Arts & Science Council (ASC) has successfully concluded its 2011 Annual Fund Drive with $1 million more than was raised last year. The campaign also has met its $1 million goal for cultural education programs in Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools within the  $8.3 million raised this year.

“We are very grateful to the thousands of individual and corporate donors for their support and their on-going commitment to the cultural community,” said ASC President Scott Provancher, announcing the campaign total today.  “I especially want to thank all of the donors who agreed with their dollars that arts, science and history education is vital to the future of our children.”

Provancher also singled out Campaign Chair Charles Bowman, Charlotte and North Carolina Market President and Special Advisor on Remediation Strategies for Bank of America, and ASC Board Chair Marc E. Manly, Group Executive and Chief Legal Officer, Duke Energy, for their untiring efforts during the campaign.

Here are some 2011 campaign highlights:

  • A $100,000 challenge grant from The Leon Levine Foundation to help reach the $1 million education goal was met by individual and corporate donors in the last two weeks of the campaign.
  • ASC received 179 corporate gifts.
  • 427 companies of all sizes participated in workplace campaigns.
    • 72 workplace campaigns surpassed their goals this year.
    • 25 of those 72 companies exceeded their goals by $8,000 or more.
  • New corporate donors or first-time employee campaigns that exceed $5,000 include:
    • Husqvarna
    • Forbo Siegling
    • CPI Security Services
    • Marsh Properties
    • Electrolux

Although the campaign officially has ended, Provancher noted that contributions are welcome until the end of the fiscal year, June 30, and an exact total will be determined then.

This year’s campaign kicked off on January 19 and officially ended Wednesday.  In 2010, the ASC campaign was extended by two weeks to reach its $7.3 million goal.

ASC invests the dollars raised from the campaign to support arts, science, history and heritage organizations, artists, and education and neighborhood cultural projects in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.  For every dollar ASC receives, 87 cents supports ASC’s mission of building appreciation, participation and support for the arts, science, history and heritage in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.
