Arts & Science Council Sets 2011 Annual Fund Drive Goal at $8.3 million

The Arts & Science Council (ASC) announced a fundraising goal of $8.3 million for its 2011 Annual Fund Drive.  The campaign, chaired by Charles Bowman, N.C. market president and financial business executive with Bank of America, ends March 25 and raises dollars to support arts, science, history and heritage organizations, artists, education programs and neighborhood cultural projects in Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

Last year, ASC achieved its $7.3 million goal for its 2010 campaign. This year’s $1 million increase is part of a separate campaign that focuses on restoring arts, science, history education programs in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools that encompass field trips, curriculum-based programs and teacher training and development.  $650,000 has been raised thus far due to significant gifts from Bank of America, C.D. Spangler Foundation, Duke Energy Foundation, Family Dollar, Visa and Wells Fargo Foundation.

Members of the executive campaign cabinet include Rebecca Anderson, Queens University of Charlotte; Mary Lou Babb, civic leader and ASC immediate past board chair; Howard Bissell, III, The Bissell Companies; Jeffrey Browning, Duke Energy; J. Ronald Hankins, Wachovia, a Wells Fargo Company; Michael A. Jones, Husqvarna; John Mackay, Jr., Discovery Place; John Switzer, KPMG, LLP and Tom Zweng, M.D., Presbyterian Hospital.
