Grants & Funding

ASC is committed to supporting a comprehensive education system that provides equitable access and high-quality learning experiences for all Charlotte-Mecklenburg students.  This year alone, thanks to funding from local corporate and individual donors, the City of Charlotte, Mecklenburg County and the North Carolina Arts Council ASC invested over $500,000 to support programs impacting CMS students and teachers.  We believe that education and participation in the arts, science and history are vital to the development of our children and our communities and have every intention of continuing our investment in resources to serve teachers, students and other learners.

Funding opportunities for the 2011-12 school year will be available in the coming months. ASC will continue to provide funding for approved cultural organizations and artists to subsidize in–school programming and projects. Our Education Provider Directory, which identifies artists and organizations in Mecklenburg County and the surrounding region who provide high quality arts, science and history programming aligned with the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS), is in the process of being updated and will be available ONLINE for the coming school year.

In addition to grant funding, ASC will continue to invest in field trips, technical assistance/curriculum alignment support, and high quality professional development programs for local teachers, teaching artists and education staff within organizations. Stay tuned for more news on these programs as they are finalized.

DONORS CHOOSE

ASC also partnered with DonorsChoose.org to support arts and cultural projects in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools again in the fall of 2010. When donors chose to contribute to these arts, science and history-based projects submitted by CMS teachers, ASC doubled each gift by providing a dollar-for-dollar match, as long as funds remained available.

ASC's $25,000 matching allocation for 2010-11 resulted in the following:

  • 116 classroom projects brought to life
  • 16,464 students in CMS classrooms impacted
  • 490 donors matching ASC’s generosity

Thanks to all teachers who submitted such creative projects and to all donors who provided critical financial support. Even though the matching funds are not currently available, we encourage CMS teachers to continue to submit projects for funding throughout the year, as the site is a great way to raise some additional resources for classroom needs.
