ASC Honors Medal designed by Joanna Gollberg

ASC Honors recognize exceptionally creative, innovative, and inquisitive individuals whose lifetime achievements in the visual, design or performing arts, history, literature or science have distinguished them and have enriched the lives of the citizens of Charlotte-Mecklenburg.

A Selection Panel, comprised of ASC Board and community members, reviews the nominees, their career achievements, writings, inventions and the breadth of their creative work and recommend recipients.  Criteria include innovative career accomplishments that have impacted Charlotte-Mecklenburg and beyond and the potential for the individual’s career to have a lasting presence in our social and cultural history.

On October 6, 2008, ASC celebrated its 50th Anniversary with the presentation of the first ASC Honors, honoring the following individuals:

  • Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux  & Patricia McBride
  • Herb Jackson
  • Dr. Francis Robicsek
  • Steve Crump
  • Arthur Smith

Each honoree received a bronze medallion designed by NC artist Joanna Gollberg and a cash award of $10,000. The awards were presented in the McColl Family Theatre at ImaginOn, and WTVI aired the program.

ASC is not accepting nominations for ASC Honors in 2009-10. Please check back here for information on future award cycles.
